Scott Duvall (also known as Powerplex) is a recurring antagonist in Invincible. He is a delusional and emotionally unstable scientist, who irrationally desires revenge on Invincible for his unintended role in the deaths of his sister and niece as well as the self-inflicted deaths of his wife and son.
Appearance
Physique
Scott is a Caucasian man with blond hair and green eyes. He has a slim and muscular build.
Clothing
Powerplex Attire
As Powerplex, he wears a sleek, form-fitting black bodysuit with red accents. The suit has a red, high-collared shoulder section, with red cuffs on the arms, and red stripes running down the sides of his torso and legs. The energy storage discs are placed around his body (back, arms, waist, and belly) which glow when he absorbs and projects his power. He wears metallic gray boots with knee guards. He also has a red headpiece covering his ears, but leaves most of head exposed.
Personality
At first, Scott was a happy and well adjusted person. He loved his family deeply, especially his sister, and he was a caring and devoted uncle.
After the deaths of his sister and niece, Scott became bitter and disenchanted. He blamed Invincible for what happened and became fixated on the idea of revenge. In his mind, killing Invincible was not vengeance, it was justice for everyone who died during the Chicago incident. This grief-driven and self-righteous belief motivated Scott, who viewed Invincible as the true villain. Even when faced with clear proof that Invincible had fought desperately to stop Omni Man, Scott could not accept it, and his anger completely clouded his judgment. When he saw an opportunity to take Invincible down, he soon abandoned everything he had built and what remained of his life, fully embracing a supervillain identity in pursuit of that goal.
Early on, Scott still showed traces of compassion and tried to keep innocent people out of the conflict. That restraint disappeared once he finally confronted Invincible. Hearing the hero speak of guilt, forgiveness, and his own pain from the Chicago attack only fueled Scott’s rage. His obsession spiraled out of control, leading him to act recklessly. In the process, he accidentally killed his own wife and son. Instead of facing his responsibility, Scott buried himself deeper in hatred, fully blaming Invincible and abandoning any remaining sense of morality.
During the Invincible War, Powerplex fought alongside other heroes against the evil Invincible variants, though his true motivation was still revenge. On the second day, he killed a variant and burnt his body, laughing over the remains in a moment of disturbing triumph. Despite this, he briefly took part in reconstruction efforts after the war, suggesting that some part of him still cared about others. That fragile restraint vanished the moment he saw the main Invincible again. He attacked immediately, blaming him for the devastation caused by the variants, making it clear that vengeance continued to dominate everything he did.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Kinetic-Electro Conversion Physiology: Scott possesses a unique physiology that allows him to absorb kinetic energy from impacts and convert it into electrical energy. This ability grants him enhanced durability and strength by negating physical damage and enables him to unleash powerful electrical attacks fueled by the absorbed energy, with even more energy generated as he continues to be attacked.
- Electrokinesis: Scott has the power to control electricity from the bio therm discs on his suit.
- Energy Absorption: Scott’s primary ability is to absorb the kinetic energy from objects, explosions, and other physical attacks, which he then converts into electrical energy for combat. Although his powers were initially limited and he could only absorb small amounts of energy, they were greatly amplified through the use of energy storage discs. This enhancement elevated him to one of the most powerful beings on Earth.
- Enhanced Strength: Scott’s ability to absorb kinetic energy grants him high physical strength, allowing him to perform incredible, superhuman feats. For example, he was able to hurl a full-grown man with enough force to send him crashing into a car. Despite his strength, he was unable to prevent Invincible and Oliver from restraining him while his energy was depleting.
- Enhanced Durability: Thanks to his ability to absorb kinetic energy, Powerplex negates damage from any physical attack, no matter how powerful, making him seemingly invincible to kinetic forces. He can endure devastating impacts and withstand repeated blows. Powerplex is even capable of absorbing strikes from beings as strong as Invincible. However, Movincihawk managed to incapacitate him briefly with a single punch. The kinetic energy he absorbs can then be converted into potentially lethal electrical energy.
- Energy Projection: Powerplex can absorb kinetic energy and convert it into devastating electrical blasts. His power was intense enough to injure and temporarily incapacitate Invincible, even causing him to bleed. Demonstrating his overwhelming strength, Powerplex single-handedly defeated an evil variant of Invincible, ultimately overpowering him by electrocuting him to death.
- High Leaps: Scott is able to propel himself forward at high speed by discharging electrical energy bolts into the ground.
Weaknesses
- Charge Loss: Powerplex can be stopped by holding him in place and preventing him from receiving any more kinetic energy, until he uses up all his charge and is no longer able to use his powers.
- Non-Kinetic Attack: Powerplex absorbs only the energy of kinetic attack so he can be hurt or killed by non-kinetic attacks such as sound, laser, strangulation, biochemical weapon.
- Mental State: The death of his sister and niece left Powerplex emotionally damaged and caused him to behave erratically, something that was only magnified further after the death of his wife and son.
Equipment
- Energy Storage Discs: Scott stole experimental technology which he used to amplify his existing energy absorption abilities. The discs were attached directly to his body and cannot be safely removed.

Trivia
- Powerplex's kinetic absorption ability is similar to that of Speedball from Marvel Comics. Speedball later renamed himself Penance and wore a suit with interior spikes, much like Powerplex.
- He is based on Electro from Marvel Comics and Electrocutioner from DC Comics.
- Powerplex is the second antagonist to have a vendetta for Invincible, the first being Angstrom Levy.
- Similar to Conquest, Powerplex in the comics was also important to Mark Grayson's role as a hero, as Mark would often blame himself for the creation of Powerplex.
- In the Season 3 teaser, Powerplex can be seen to the far right sitting with Becky Duvall.
- Ironically enough in Breaking Bad, Jesse Pinkman (who was played by Aaron Paul) often wore black and red during the first three seasons.
- Powerplex's build and appearance is similar to Todd.
- There are rumors that Force Fist and Knuckle Buster could be Scott and Jessica's parents. It was stated that they died when he was very young.
- It was confirmed by Aaron Paul, that he would not return as Powerplex for future seasons, admitting that because of the character's story, and delving into his skin (like his life) "it was too grueling on his psyche."[1]
- Aaron would later play another super powered character, who's character was similar to Invincible and Cecil Stedman in terms of actions, responsibility and consequences, called Mecha Man in the critically acclaimed game: Dispatch, released just months after Season 3.
- Similar to Powerplex, Mecha man was often alone in life, lacked a social group of supporting role models, and only was friends with Trackstar, a speedster super hero at the time whom he considered like family. Eventually met new allies in SDN and managed to find a new calling as a dispatch caller to redeem former villians.
