The Sequids are recurring antagonist in the series making their debut in the first season.

They are a parasitic alien species known for their destructive nature and their iconic ability to control the minds of others, having left a trail of devastation across the universe before ultimately crash-landing on Mars. During their time on Mars, the Sequids were enslaved by the Martians since they required living and controllable hosts in order to become a true threat.

That situation changed when a group of astronauts arrived on Mars, with Invincible following the mission. The Sequids managed to take control of one astronaut, Rus Livingston, using him as a host to break free. They quickly unified, destroyed Mars, and then set their sights on Earth.

Their first attempt to invade Earth was stopped by the combined efforts of the Guardians of the Globe, along with Atom Eve and Invincible, who was able to save Rus. However, one Sequid secretly remained inside him and later took control again, quietly building up hosts for another invasion.

When the Sequids returned in full force, they were once again defeated by the Guardians and Invincible. This time, however, Invincible was forced to kill Rus Livingston to stop them, an act that took a serious toll on him.

After the battle, one last Sequid hid inside Robot. It soon revealed itself, but before it could take control, it was killed by Monster Girl, stopping the Sequids once again, at least for now.

Appearance

Sequids are parasitic, pink, squid-like aliens with three tentacles and exposed, brain-like heads.

Personality

The Sequids share a kind of group consciousness, moving with a hive like mindset, but they only become truly dangerous once they take over a host. It only takes a single Sequid to do this, and once this happens, the entire swarm is able to sync up and act as one.

Without a host, individual Sequids appear largely mindless, aimless, and submissive. Back on Mars, they were used as slaves by the Martians and followed orders without resistance. Yet this did not deter any of them from seeking a host; they relentlessly attempted to latch onto any living being they could find in hopes of possessing them and achieving unification.

Once they have a host, everything shifts. They become much stronger, more coordinated, and far more dangerous. At that point, they act less like scattered creatures and more like a single, focused force, often behaving like ruthless conquerors and/or destructive monsters, leaving a path of devastation in their wake seemingly for its own sake. When they took over Rus Livingston, they quickly turned on the Martians and overthrew them, clearly acting on built up resentment from being enslaved for so long.

The Sequids also recall Invincible from their previous encounter, when they failed to control him and instead chose to destroy him and possess his allies. This indicates they possess tactical awareness, understanding their own limitations and recognizing which opponents pose serious threats. Even though they can come off as overconfident, especially during their attempt to take over Earth, they are still intelligent and capable of making calculated moves, not to be underestimated.

They demonstrate strategic planning as well and are willing to play the long game when needed; after their invasion was thwarted and had lost their host, one Sequid stayed hidden rather than attacking right away, biding its time until it could possess a host again. The same approach was attempted again later, although it was stopped before it could succeed. Even with this level of planning, they are not perfect, they tend to fall back on the same ideas, which makes them easier to predict over time and shows they are not especially adaptable.

History

Background

A long time ago, the Sequids took many hosts to unify together and left a trail of destruction across the universe before crash landing on Mars. During their time on the planet, the Sequids were left scattered and weak due to being unable to take control of the Martians thanks to their shapeshifting abilities. As the Sequids could not penetrate the skin of the Martian people, they were used as servants to the Martians as they posed no threat.

Rise of the Sequids

However, this changed when a team of astronauts from the neighboring planet, Earth, was sent on the first mission to Mars, with Invincible having been tasked by the Global Defense Agency to watch over them. When the team of astronauts landed on Mars, they were soon kidnapped by the Martians and brought to the Emperor of Mars. They were scheduled for immediate execution due to the Emperor fearing the Sequids taking advantage of them to rise and invade Mars.

Invincible was able to help the astronauts escape, but it was later revealed that a Martian had shapeshifted and taken the place of one of the astronauts, Rus Livingston. The astronaut who had been replaced was then claimed by the Sequids, which allowed them to unify and begin their invasion of Mars.

The Sequids were seen again successfully invading Mars and attacking the Martians, and were later seen again in the aftermath of their invasion, boarding a Martian ship and heading for Earth.

When members of the Guardians of the Globe were dispatched to stop the invasion, the Sequids were alerted to their presence by the death of one when Bulletproof spotted it and impulsively killed it. While the Guardians managed to hold them off temporarily, the team was constantly overwhelmed by the massive numbers, knocking Atom Eve unconscious and forcing Shapesmith to morph into a protective barrier around them. This stalling allowed Robot to create a device that cleansed Livingston from the Sequids' control.

However, the Sequids managed to gain control of both Atom Eve and Robot, but before they could fully recover, the Guardians restrained the two, and Invincible managed to use the device once more to remove the Sequids. The Guardians made it off the Martian ship, and with no hosts, the Sequids were no longer a threat.

Unbeknownst to anyone, however, one Sequid was hidden inside Rus Livingston's stomach and was brought back with him to Earth. Eventually, Rus vomited into his sink due to the state his residence had been left in by Shapesmith during his absence. This allowed the lone Sequid to emerge from inside of his body and attack him, enslaving him once more.

Not Long Now

In the aftermath of the Invincible War, the Sequids were shown hiding out in the sewers, where they had multiplied and taken over more hosts, quietly building up strength for a full invasion of Earth.

When they finally made their move, the Sequids spewed out into the city en masse and began taking more hosts. Meanwhile, having anticipated this eventuality, the Guardians and the GDA were prepared, setting up a city wide barrier grid to contain the outbreak. Invincible and the Guardians rushed in to stop the Sequids before they could escape containment, the latter of which were equipped with a set of weapons to combat them; a pulse disruptor designed to cure infected humans, along with a dart gun to teleport them straight to the Pentagon and to safety.

During the battle, Robot tracked down infected victims in the sewers, but got knocked out. He eventually awakened and managed to combat the Sequids when they attempted to enslave him, then saved the last survivors below. Meanwhile, the situation quickly spiraled as the Sequids began overwhelming the barrier and destroying the Guardians' equipment, mainly their disruptors, along the way.

Invincible soon confronted an infected Rus and immediately questioned the Sequids about how they had managed to get to Earth and took control of him again. They coldly responded that Invincible and his allies brought them to Earth despite their best efforts to prevent this. Invincible then grabbed hold of Rus and restrained him as Bulletproof rushed in with a disruptor. However, the barrier was on the verge of failing, and with not enough time for Bulletproof to make it, Invincible reluctantly made a sudden and brutal decision, to kill Rus to stop the Sequids from spreading beyond the city.

Aftermath

Everyone was uneasy following this decision, though most came to conclusion that Invincible did what was right. Afterward, Cecil and the Global Defense Agency worked to clean up the destruction left behind by the Sequids.

Back at Guardians HQ, Robot initially called out Invincible for going too far, arguing with the others and believing that Rus did not have to die. However, his stance changed shortly after when he went to the showers alone and coughed up a Sequid that had been hiding inside him following the battle. Robot tried to call for help but his voice was left impaired after the Sequid emerged. He managed to evade its initial attack and before it could take control of him, Monster Girl quickly arrived and killed it, stopping the infection from restarting for the time being. This close call left Robot shaken and though Amanda tried to comfort him, the two agreed that they were only lucky this time and threats such as the Sequids had to be dealt with permanently, considering that Invincible might have made the right decision after all.

Cecil and Donald, who watched footage of the battle and how Invincible had killed Rus, were also unsettled by the decision he had made. Cecil understood the risks this posed, the psychological trauma Invincible was clearly experiencing as well as remembering how similar situations had went. Sometime after this, Cecil called Invincible to the G.D.A and attempted to console him while also trying to convince him to not make such hard decisions alone.

Powers & Abilities

The Sequids are a parasitic species defined by their ability to dominate and assimilate other lifeforms, notably humans, functioning as a biologically driven collective rather than independent organisms. Their primary method of survival and expansion lies in their capacity for parasitic possession, allowing them to attach to a host and seamlessly fuse with its body and nervous system. Once bonded, the host’s autonomy is completely suppressed, becoming a vessel through which the Sequid exerts full physical and cognitive control.

In their natural state, Sequids exhibit only limited intelligence and operate largely on instinct. However, when integrated into hosts, they form a highly coordinated hive-like network. This collective consciousness enables them to synchronize actions, share sensory input, and execute complex strategies with precision. Their psychic link is highly sensitive, allowing them to register disturbances within the network, including the destruction of individual members.

Despite their individual fragility, Sequids compensate through overwhelming numbers. Their rapid and largely unexplained reproduction allows them to amass in vast quantities, forming swarms capable of overtaking entire populations. When acting collectively, they can breach defensive measures and overpower resistance through sheer volume.

Weaknesses

Despite their effectiveness as parasitic organisms, the Sequids are rendered ineffective against species possessing highly resistant or adaptive physiologies. Their method of possession relies on successful physical attachment and neurological integration, both of which are nullified when faced with incompatible biological systems.

Species such as Viltrumites exhibit near-invulnerable external tissue, preventing Sequids from penetrating the body and causing parasitic fusion. Similarly, Martians possess advanced shapeshifting capabilities that allow them to actively disrupt, isolate, or expel foreign organisms from within their bodies before control can be established.
