The Fall of Conquest was a brutal space event in Invincible, which resulted in the second and final battle between Invincible and the second most powerful Viltrumite, Conquest. This was one of the two events that signified the sunrise of the Viltrumite War, the climactic event between the Coalition of Planets and the Viltrum Empire.
Unwelcome Rematch
Here comes the welcome wagon.
Following Mark's reluctant agreement to join the Coalition of Planets in their war against the Viltrum Empire, he and Oliver join Nolan, Allen the Alien, and the newly recruited Tech Jacket aboard a Coalition Warship, setting a course for Talescria.
However, their journey is abruptly interrupted when their vessel is ambushed by a Viltrumite cruiser. With the ship severely damaged, Telia and the crew are forced to retreat and abandon the Graysons, Allen, and Tech Jacket. The attacking force is commanded by Conquest—who survived his previous brutal encounter with Mark—alongside two other deadly Viltrumite warriors, Lucan (who is shown to be fully healed after his battle with the Graysons on Thraxa) and Kradd.
Fall of the Titan
Conquest swats Oliver like a bug.
Bewildered, Invincible is horrified to see his greatest adversary back from the dead. Immediately, Oliver rushes for a rematch against the old juggernaut, while Mark tries to stop him, Lucan distracts the hero, wanting the "insect" to learn his lesson once more.
Invincible saves Nolan from Conquest.
A chaotic and devastating battle between Oliver, Nolan, and eventually Invincible against Conquest and Lucan ensues. While Allen and Tech Jacket fight Kradd. Things get headed when Alien Enforcers of the Viltrum Empire arrive, quickly scattering the combatants. Seeking a moment to catch his breath, Oliver flees to a nearby uninhabited planet, Invincible recalls Conquest's pathetic venting moment but Conquest notices Oliver and ruthlessly pursues him. As Oliver recovers, Conquest appears behind him ready to strike. Mark arrives just in time to save his brother, sparking a savage one-on-one rematch.
The fight is incredibly violent, with Mark and Conquest dragging each other across the barren world and destroying everything in their path. Invincible swears that Conquest shall never endure another breath again and begins strangling him.
Meanwhile, Oliver tries to search for his brother, only to encounter Nolan, hysterically asking where Mark is, but Oliver is uncertain.
During a brutal standoff, Mark manages to get a chokehold on his nemesis and even biting off his thumb in the process, as Conquest fiercely pounds away at Mark's body and crashes them through the ground. Gaining the upper hand, Conquest inflicts a horrific injury on Mark, tearing through his stomach and pulling out his entrails.
Despite suffering this gruesome, near-fatal trauma, Mark's sheer willpower and desperation push him beyond his limits. Refusing to die, Mark tightens his grip and furiously asphyxiates the Viltrumite powerhouse, finally killing Conquest once and for all.
Aftermath
Back in space, Tech Jacket and Allen barely escape the Viltrumites and Alien Oppressors, using the Tech Jacket suit to hide inside the Viltrumite Warship.
Despite Mark's victory, it has now left all the Earth Warriors and Allen stranded in space, as Invincible, who is the key player of the war has been left incapacitated leaving Omni Man and Oliver to stay alongside him, giving Conquest the last laugh as he managed to injure mark just as brutally. Telia and Captain Pikell's crew are the last few who are en route to Talescria. This also causes Thaedus to prematurely begin to execute his counter attack on the Viltrum empire as he knew that they're now well aware of enemies coming after them and it's only a matter of time until they learn of the Coalition through the mole amongst them, ordering Telia to return promptly.
Meanwhile Lucan and Kradd are unaware of Conquest's demise, with Lucan reassuring that Conquest could take care of himself as he was more focused on finding Allen and Zoe who unbeknownst to both had infiltrated their ship with Zoe using her Tech Jacket suit to make a small patch where Allen and her hide until they can strike again. The Viltrumites also fear what they were going to tell the Grand Regent when reporting him of their failures.
Conquest's Mausoleum
Nolan would soon after have Conquest burried. When Oliver questions why despite all of his actions is he being given such respect, Nolan tries to explain to him that Conquest was a solider who served his empire and fought till the very end for its glory and as a result deserves a warrior's respect, hence having him buried, surrounded by rock pillars in the shape of their empire's symbol.
It may also be that Nolan knew about Conquest's isolation and reputation of being treated as an animal amongst his own people and felt some form of sympathy for the fallen warrior, wanting to pay the respects he'd otherwise never receive.
Anissa learns of Conquest's demise.
Later Mark discover the tombstones, somewhat perplexed by the site but more so how he died, it wasn't until Nolan and Oliver arrived and told Mark he killed him.
In the final day of the Viltrumite War, Mark witnessed Oliver's near death, enraged he claimed to Thragg and the viltrumites that he killed Conquest, "strangely" Anissa turned around with an amusing response.
One unforeseen consequence of Mark's defeat of Conquest, is that he unintentionally demonstrated that Human-Viltrumite hybrids could produce strength virtually indistinguishable from that of a pure blooded Viltrumite. This results in the Great Resurgence, where the surviving Viltrumites will breed with humans in order to replenish their numbers.
