Go! Destroy everything in your path! Make them see Invincible! Make them fear Invincible! Make them hate...!
Angstrom Levy to his destructive Horsemen in "What Have I Done?"

The Invincible War was the third overarching worldwide event in Invincible, featuring all of Earth's superpowered individuals and military forces against evil variants of Invincible from across the multiverse, led by a still very much alive Angstrom Levy. The war lasted for the course of three days, with the purpose of ruining and undermining the heroic legacy of the mainstream Invincible.

Prelude

Previously on Invincible.

Previously on Invincible..

Angstrom Levy targeted Invincible and his family, aiming to get revenge for what occurred after his previous plan. He was unsuccessful and suffered critical injuries, abandoned in a desolate reality.

Though the Guardians from an alternate timeline rescued Invincible, Angstrom's body remained in the remnants of the wasteland in critical condition. Barely alive, Angstrom opened a portal to a universe occupied by mysterious beings known as the Technicians. With their help, he was repaired and initiated a fresh plan to seek vengeance on Invincible.

An unseen foe watches the Graysons.

For an indefinite span of months, Angstrom observed his family secretly through the use of orb-like drones. Mark managed to catch one of these devices when he saw it spying on them, but then it self-destructed.

Mark could not figure out who the perpetrator was. When he reached Teen Team HQ, he brought the device to Robot, though he was unable to identify the inventor of the orb device, mentioning that its technology was highly advanced. Invincible had already assumed that it was Cecil Stedman after their disagreement and went back to the Pentagon where he faced ReAnimen and Cecil, who evasively state that it was not GDA tech, and departed, claiming that this is not over.

The Beginning of the End of Invincible.

While observing the Graysons and Eve, Angstrom devised his latest plan and started to recruit several evil variants of Invincible across the multiverse. Most of these variants were offered other realities by Angstrom to expand their empires, though some made different deals. At last, the day arrived when it was disclosed that he had successfully gathered at least eighteen variants at the Technicians' lab, each appearing quite dangerous with menacing facial expressions.

Day One

Day One

Day One

Angstrom begins his plan, opening his portals and sending all the Invincible variants through with the intent of causing as much destruction as possible in order to make everyone in the whole world fear and hate Invincible. At the time, Mark and Eve are relaxing in former's home when Eve receives a call from Payton Penitentiary, which is in the process of being attacked. This attack prompts the prison to call Invincible Inc. for help, informing Atom Eve that Invincible is attacking them, which stuns her.

Elsewhere, the other variants quickly make their presence known and kick off a massive-scale battle the Earth has never seen before:

The mainline Invincible soon reaches Payton Penitentiary, where he finds himself facing off against the variant responsible for the attack. Movincihawk initially thinks Invincible is one of his allies, only to realize he is the Invincible of this universe. Invincible battles his variant, eventually defeating him by slamming his fists into his ears. However, Knockout, Kid Thor, and Bolt then show up; mistaking Invincible for one of the variants, they attack him. In the midst of the chaos, Powerplex escapes, initially happy to see other heroes beating up Invincible, only to find himself face-to-face with Movincihawk, who proceeds to take Powerplex out easily. Eventually, Movincihawk is beaten by the combined might of Invincible, Knockout, Bolt, and Kid Thor. Bolt assures Invincible they can take it from here. As Invincible joins Atom Eve to investigate the catastrophe, Knockout, Bolt, and Kid Thor go to restrain Movincihawk, only for him to recover and take them out off-screen.

While the chaos ensues, Debbie, Oliver, April, Amber, Kyle, William, and Rick watch news broadcasts showing how major cities around the world are being attacked by multiple individuals resembling Invincible, with local and government forces being completely overwhelmed. Oliver changes into his Kid Omni-Man costume, determined to help fight the evil variants, but Debbie tells him not to return to the house should any of the Invincible variants come looking for them.

At the Pentagon, Cecil and Donald watch as a group of ReAnimen beat Flaxancible to death. Cecil is injured, and Donald's synthetic skin is damaged from the fight. Donald shares that the team believes Flaxancible and the others are from alternate dimensions where Mark is not heroic, noting there are at least 18 of them around the world. Fortunately, Flaxancible is not as powerful as the Invincible from the main universe. With the noisemaker damaged, Cecil orders Donald to get the scientists to make more, only for Donald to inform him that the engineering room is gone. When asked how the team should respond, Cecil answers that they will "make calls to everyone," getting every available hero involved to deal with the variants.

Day Two

Day Two

Day Two

Continuing the war into Day Two, Brit begins ordering heroes into the transporters. Heroes including Two Punch Man, Business Baby, Throwbolt, The Hunk, and many others enter the transporters to battle the Evil Invincibles.

Kid Omni-Man lifts a piece of rubble to save a trapped man before noticing his brother, Invincible. As he gets closer, however, Kid Omni-Man stops, finding himself face-to-face with Capvincible. The variant takes down Kid Omni-Man and prepares to crush the boy with a piece of rubble. Kid Omni-Man recovers, flying underneath the variant's leg before punching him in the back. Capvincible recovers and prepares to retaliate until Throwbolt and Bug-Eye arrive, assisting Oliver in fighting the variant.

Invincible and Atom Eve fly across the ruined city, taking in the destroyed buildings and the many bodies left behind. Eve exclaims to Mark that things are really bad, with Invincible variants appearing everywhere. She suggests taking them down one by one before tracking down whoever is responsible. Invincible suspects it is Angstrom Levy, though was initially certain that he already killed him. Right then, Mark and Eve spot Hoodvincible fighting a group of heroes. The heroes manage to land a few hits and even draw blood, but it is not enough. Hoodvincible quickly overwhelms them, slamming the ground and declaring that they are only seeing a fraction of his power. Invincible and Atom Eve rush in and manage to overpower him, but the fight shifts when Omnivincible suddenly joins in. Hoodvincible snaps at Omnivincible, telling him to leave while throwing in a few vulgar insults, but Omnivincible calmly shuts him down, pointing out that swearing does not make him look cool. Invincible tells Atom Eve to get out of there, but she refuses. That splits the fight, with Invincible taking on Hoodvincible while Eve goes up against Omnivincible. As the battle drags on, Atom Eve starts to get overwhelmed. Omnivincible overpowers her and breaks her leg, leaving her vulnerable, until Invincible steps in and hurls Hoodvincible at him to stop the attack. Invincible holds Eve up as Omnivincible gives him an ultimatum, making it clear that he cannot protect his girlfriend and fight off his evil counterparts at the same time. Before things can get worse, Cecil deploys a squad of ReAnimen, sending them after both Hoodvincible and Omnivincible and giving Mark and Eve a chance to escape. Speaking through a drone, Cecil orders Invincible to get Eve to the hospital. At the same time, Donald pushes to be sent into the field, believing he can do more out there than at the base. Cecil hesitates but eventually agrees, instructing him to find Brit. After this, Invincible stays by Atom Eve’s side for the rest of the war and refuses to leave her side.

In Egypt, Nogogglesible crashes into the tomb of Ka-Hor, where the Spectre attempts to possess his body. The Immortal watches in confusion, but Nogogglesible manages to break free and resumes his fight against him. Meanwhile, Ka-Hor panics because, without a host, he cannot survive outside his tomb. In a state of urgency, he crawls back inside just as Riley exits, carrying a barely alive Jane, who is weak from being trapped for so long. Riley comments that his people must have cursed him for a reason and urges him to think about that. Ka-Hor only retorts and expresses relief at being rid of them. Riley calls Ka-Hor a "misogynistic jerk" and hopes he enjoys being alone for eternity before leaving. She reassures Jane as she carries her out of the temple, promising that she will live.

The War continues as heroes find themselves struggling to defeat the invading variants and survive their onslaught:

At the Guardians of the Globe base, Black Samson and Shapesmith lie injured, surrounded by many corpses of Dupli-Kate's clones. Nogogglesible laughs off attacks from The Immortal and Darkwing II, sarcastically complimenting them. After throwing The Immortal over his shoulder, Darkwing II drops from above, only for Nogogglesible to grab him by the heel and slam him onto the ground, breaking his leg. Enraged by his teammate getting injured, The Immortal flies in and pummels Nogogglesible, calling him a pale imitation of Invincible. However, Nogogglesible laughs off the blows and punches The Immortal down. He effortlessly kills two of Dupli-Kate's clones before wrestling with The Immortal, revealing that the Omni-Man in his world killed many heroes and that Shapesmith did not even exist there. Nogogglesible proceeds to mock Shapesmith before getting punched by The Immortal. Enraged, Nogogglesible coldly tells The Immortal that he "ruined the moment" before defeating him. Nogogglesible uses his foot to decapitate The Immortal, then throws his head to kill a Dupli-Kate clone, leaving it rolling next to an injured Dupli-Kate. Nogogglesible groans that he always ends his fights too quickly, which results in no torture, no screaming, and no fun. Luckily, Darkwing II jumps in, sacrificing himself by dragging Nogogglesible into the Shadow-Verse; neither is seen again.

Debbie stays at Paul's home for safety and waits for news updates. This allows her to avoid a confrontation with Movincihawk, who comes to her home in an attempt to murder her. Movincihawk pretends to be the mainstream Invincible and claims he is hurt, begging his "mom" for help. However, Debbie has already left, making Movincihawk disappointed that he cannot kill her again. He drops his act and leaves the house, crashing through its roof.

William and Rick are seen running through the burning campus of Upstate University, which has been set ablaze by an unknown Invincible variant. A large piece of rubble nearly falls on William, but Rick's enhanced strength from his cybernetic body saves him.

Back at Guardians HQ, Shapesmith awakens, to the surprise of an injured Black Samson, having survived because his core remained intact. When wondering where Darkwing went, Samson reveals to Shapesmith that the variant must have killed him after he took him to the Shadowverse, thus trapping himself there. Samson then insists that he and Shapesmith must get back into the battle, though neither of them are in proper fighting condition.

In the Teen Team Base, Gogglesvincible defeats Rex Splode and Monster Girl, and tears through Robot's drones. Gogglesvincible soon finds Robot's real body, surprised by his human appearance. Before he can finish Robot off, Bulletproof flies in and attacks. In retaliation, Gogglesvincible pummels Bulletproof. While Gogglesvincible and Bulletproof are fighting, Rudy rolls across the floor and finds Amanda breathing but unconscious. Rex wakes up bleeding from an open wound he received earlier. Rudy urges Rex that they need to leave and get Amanda out just as Bulletproof is sent crashing backward by Gogglesvincible. Rex tells him that they are better off with someone who can fly and orders Bulletproof to get everyone out, assuring him that he has a plan. Bulletproof obediently flies Rudy and Amanda out, leaving Rex alone to face the variant. Gogglesvincible snarkily remarks that his plan is stupid, to which Rex Splode replies that everything about this is stupid. Rex bombards Gogglesvincible with several explosions, but he only manages to damage the variant's suit. Rex is overpowered, and Gogglesvincible holds him up by the neck, telling him that all this was pointless. Gogglesvincible threateningly declares that he is going to pop Rex's head off before finding the others and skinning them alive. Holding his wound, Rex listens as Gogglesvincible monologues about how he is dumber than the Rex Splode of his world. However, Rex reveals that he will take the variant with him. He charges up his own skeleton, performing a suicide bomb attack that kills Gogglesvincible at the cost of his own life. Shrinking Rae, Bulletproof, and Rudy all witness this.

The devastation and overall effects of the Invincible War are felt all across the world:

Day Three

Day Three

Day Three

Despite the deaths of Sportvincible, Mustachible, Hairvincible, Lightblueincible, Capvincible, Hoodvincible, Bulletproofible, Gogglesvincible, and Flaxancible, the remaining variants—including Capevincible, Viltrumincible, Movincihawk, Nomaskible, Stripevincible, Prisonincible, Omnivincible, and Maskvincible—float over the destroyed cities before being summoned by Angstrom Levy to meet over the Grayson house to move on to Phase 2 of his plan.

The remaining eight variants meet over their old house, with Omnivincible expressing that he hates coming back there. However, Maskvincible disagrees, noting that not all of them killed their version of Debbie and that he actually liked the house. Movincihawk angrily and impatiently groans about what is taking Angstrom so long. As if on cue, Angstrom arrives, saying he likes to make an entrance. Angstrom praises the variants, telling them they not only destroyed Invincible's world but also destroyed Invincible himself, and that the attack will ensure the world thinks of the war whenever they hear his name. Angstrom then orders them to bring the mainstream Invincible to him for a face-to-face confrontation. Capevincible and the other variants refuse, with Capevincible pointing out that his plan resulted in the deaths of most of the alternate Invincibles. Movincihawk snarkily replies that he does not care, claiming the dead variants were weak and he would have murdered them himself anyway. Stripevincible demands Angstrom uphold their deal to help expand their empires to other dimensions. Maskvincible notes his deal was different, as Angstrom promised to find him a Debbie. Movincihawk obnoxiously makes fun of him for missing his "mommy" and pretends to cry. Maskvincible retorts that they are all the same person and he cannot be the only one who feels this way. The variants share glances, and Nomaskible even admits he misses the William of his dimension. Capevincible dismisses this, stating that all of this is pointless if they are dead. The variants surround Angstrom, with Capevincible threatening to kill him unless he returns them to their home dimensions. Movincihawk points out that if they kill Angstrom, they will be stuck in the main universe, suggesting they torture him instead—a plan the others agree to. Before any of the alternates can attack, Angstrom opens his portals, startling them long enough to summon his drones and push the variants through. He banishes them to the desolate Wasteland dimension where he previously trapped the mainstream Invincible. Angstrom expresses disappointment; though he is not surprised the variants betrayed him, he did not expect them to do it so soon.

Angered at being sent to the Wasteland dimension, Capevincible screams that Angstrom is dead, only for Movincihawk to annoyedly tell him that Angstrom cannot hear him where they are.

Cecil then teleports the mainline Invincible to confront Angstrom. Angstrom uses his drones to attack Invincible, sharing that he has surgeons ready to treat him in case Invincible proves too much to handle. Invincible and Angstrom continue their fight; Invincible dodges the portals, which impresses Angstrom, who continues his drone assault. As Angstrom sends hordes of drones to push Invincible into a portal, he assures him that he will bring him back after destroying everything he loves. This angers Invincible, who overpowers the drones and closes in on Angstrom just as the villain's drone numbers begin to deplete. Invincible grabs Angstrom as Kid Omni-Man arrives, urging his brother to kill Angstrom before he escapes to make him pay for the lives he has destroyed. Before Invincible can act, Angstrom's last drone strikes Invincible in the head, distracting him long enough to open a portal. Invincible reaches out and grabs Angstrom by the arm, but the portal closes, slicing the arm off. Oliver approaches his brother, expressing how gross it is to see Invincible holding Angstrom's severed arm.

Angstrom goes to his Technicians. With his plan failed, he orders them to fix his wound so he can bring all the Invincibles back and finish the job. However, the Technicians refuse to respond, leaving Angstrom to angrily lash out, claiming their name reflects how cold and heartless they are, and questioning if they are going to let him bleed to death. Approaching him, the Technicians refuse to treat him. Angstrom tries to flee, but the technology on his head emits a painful vibration, causing him to drop to his knees. The Technicians tell him that he made promises he failed to deliver, and his world has no value to them. They inform Angstrom that he works for them now. They state that if he agrees, they will eventually treat his wound, but if he refuses, his body will benefit their research. This marks the end of the Invincible War.

Aftermath

By the end of the war, major cities are reduced to ruins, with buildings and homes destroyed across the globe. Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Paris, Moscow, London, Tokyo, New Delhi, Seoul, and Sydney are leveled. Hundreds of thousands of lives are lost or worse, and the military is forced to transport many survivors to various locations.

Many heroes are killed or injured. British Knight, Rex Splode, The Hunk, and Shrapnel are among the heroes killed in battle. Atom Eve, Dupli-Kate, The Immortal, Shapesmith, Black Samson, Monster Girl, and Business Baby are injured in their fights against the Invincible variants. Darkwing II is declared missing in action after trapping himself along with an evil Invincible variant in the Shadow-Verse. The Immortal and Dupli-Kate, feeling life has become too short and that they are no longer capable of fighting new, more powerful threats, decide to get married, settle down, and declare their retirement from hero work.

The battle leaves Invincible feeling immensely guilty, realizing that Angstrom's survival and deep hatred for him are the root causes of the evil variants' arrival. Powerplex blames Invincible for what happened, and others show unease around him. Feeling sad, angry, guilty, and frustrated, Invincible returns to visit Eve before meeting up with Cecil and the Guardians of the Globe. Cecil offers to make Invincible the new leader of the Guardians, but he adamantly refuses, as he still does not fully trust Cecil.

While Invincible takes part in the city's cleanup, his small reprieve does not last, as Conquest arrives to check on his progress in conquering Earth. Feeling he has virtually hit rock bottom, Invincible is excited by the prospect of punching something as hard as he can, which kicks off his fight with Conquest.

After the fight with Conquest, the heroes from the war attend Rex Splode's funeral, remembering him as one of the few major superheroes who took down an evil Invincible. In memory of his friend, Robot (Rudolph Conners) decides to change his name to Rex Conners to honor and continue Rex Splode's legacy.

In the following months, cities still remain in ruins. Many Earthlings, and even some heroes from Capes Inc., begin to look at Invincible differently. Noticing their reactions, Invincible commits to toiling day and night to stop the criminals that still lurk and cause chaos, dealing with the ramifications of not stopping Angstrom Levy the first time. One night, Adam Wilkins reminds Invincible of what Omnivincible did to Eve, noting that she nearly died because she aided him during the War. He suggests that Invincible reconsider his poor decision-making, particularly regarding his recent clashes like the one with Conquest.

On the other hand, this three-day disaster becomes a beacon of inspiration for Dinosaurus, a sociopathic scientist who continues where the evil variants left off, seeking to eradicate humanity in order to "improve the world".
